[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Jade Harley
FANDOM: MS Paint Adventures: Homestuck
CHRONOLOGY: After this page.
CLASS: Hero!
SUPERHERO NAME: Witch of Space
ALTER EGO: Jade Harley, and she'll uh... Probably get a job or something?

BACKGROUND:
Jade was raised on a remote, volcanic island in the middle of the South Pacific with her grandfather, an extremely talented man. He was a world-renowned explorer, naturalist, treasure hunter, archeologist, scientist, adventurer, big game hunter and billionaire. He taught her how to shoot and also filled his house with tons of high-tech things that may have been Skaian in origin. There was also a strange white dog on the island, who would turn out to be Earth's First Guardian, an omnipotent entity that exists on each planet destined for intelligent life. Bec, in particular, has the ability to control space, though Jade had always thought he was just a strange dog. These Guardians exist to protect their planet and “facillitate the planet's ultimate purpose”.

She also had dreams of a golden moon named Prospit which orbited a beautiful blue planet called Skaia. In the clouds of Skaia, Jade could see glimpses of the future. Perhaps because of the troll Vriska's influence, Jade suffered from narcolepsy and slept often. To remedy this, her Grandpa built her a robot that mimicked her dream self's actions, and activated automatically when Jade fell asleep. This robot allowed Jade to continue her real life activities while sleeping, though she seemed to have trouble remembering things while asleep.

When Jade was very young, she was playing with a pair of pistols that went off. Tavros, a troll that had been watching over her, used his ability to control animals to take over Bec, forcing the dog to teleport the pistols elsewhere, which accidentally killed Grandpa. From this point on, Jade was raised by Bec.

Ever since Jade was a baby and she and her grandfather arrived on their island, they have been in possession of an old, beat up plush bunny, most of which had been repaired with various purple knit patches. On one of her birthdays, Bec led Jade to a blue package which contained a Blue Slime Ghost t-shirt and pumpkin seeds. It also included a letter from a boy named John, who claimed he was one of her best friends and hoped she would enjoy the seeds, as he knew she loved to garden. Even though Jade had no idea who this boy was, this package leads to her habit of wearing blue and her love of gardening.

Not long after, Jade contacts Dave Strider and Rose Lalonde, who she had most likely seen in her visions. She also contacts John through Pesterchum, an instant messaging client, and the four become fast friends. At some point, she is also sent a letter from someone who claims to be her grandson, and who helps her create a robotic version of the rabbit heirloom she's always had. She believes his claims because talking to him feels like talking to family.

Soon enough, a new video game is announced called SBURB. John was super excited to start it, and convinces Dave and Rose to sign up for the beta as well. On his 13th birthday, Jade sends John the rabbit, knowing he will receive it exactly when he needs it, and knowing that the four of them will begin to play Sburb and that this will change their lives.

As as aside: Sburb is a computer game that takes place superimposed over the real-world rather than in a virtual one. It requires at least two players: the Client and the Server. Each player installs their version of the game, and the Server player manipulates the Client's environment in real time in an attempt to allow the Client to enter the Medium. Each new client-server connection creates a unique session of the game that is independent of all others, unless a daisy chain connection of Servers to Clients occurs, in which the entire chain of players are all considered one session.

The first connection to occur in the kid's game was John (the Client) and Rose (the Server). Not long after they began playing, a meteor hit very close to Jade's house, and the group discovered that the game was really created to destroy the world. The only was to escape this was to enter the Medium, which exists in a seperate universe called the Incipisphere. This universe consists of Skaia, which is called a “dormant crucible of unlimited creative potential” that lies above seven gates. This planet is orbited by two moons – Prospit, the Light Kingdom, and Derse, the Dark Kingdom – which are constantly at war with each other over Skaia. Each player has a dream self that lives on either Derse or Prospit, but must be awakened.

The Medium is the majority of the Incipisphere, and is the area where the player's houses are transported after completing their first quest. Each player is given a planet which is related to their mythical role and their powers. John's, for example, is the Land of Wind and Shade, while Dave's is the Land of Heat and Clockwork. Jade was the last one to enter the Medium, and so spent most of the game guiding her fellow players, always being intentionally vague as she didn't want to “mess things up”.

There were many dangers in this game, though. The kids stayed in contact with the Trolls who had been bothering them for years, and learned some things from them. First of all, the Trolls were a group of twelve kids from a planet called Alternia, and were all their age. They had played Sburb, too, and explained that there was no way to save Earth at this point. The goal of the game for the kids was to beat their session's villian, Jack Noir, and save Skaia, at which point the game would create a new universe for them to live in. The troll's session had been successful, and they had actually created Earth and the kids' universe in this way, but had been unable to enter the gate to their new universe.

Over the course of the game, Dave's and Rose's dream selves awakened on Derse, and the kids began to use the gates on their planets to reach one another. John's, however, awakened in a much more tragic way. Jack Noir, an agent of Derse, attacked Prospit, and sent it plummeting towards Skaia. Jade was on the moon with him, desperately trying to awaken him, but was unable to. In a last ditch effort to save him, she sacrificed her dreamself to push his out of the way of the falling moon.

After this, one of the trolls encouraged John to finally help Jade enter the game, and also explained to him that every time the kids prototyped (or customized) their sprite (a sort of guardian in the game – think Navi from Ocarina of Time), they gave that same power to Jack, thus determining how hard the game's final boss would be. Because of this, John attempted to prototype Jade's sprite with something harmless, like a doll. However, before he could do so, Vriska forced him to sleep, and Bec prototyped himself with the sprite to protect Jade from the oncoming meteor.

At this point, another troll, Karkat, explains just how terrible that action really was. Bec is an omnipotent, unstoppable guardian. Though he had saved Jade's life and gotten her onto her planet, Jack Noir now had all of Bec's powers. Somehow, in an unprecedented event, the kids' Jack switched sessions, entering the Troll's game and destroying their gateway to Earth. He was now terrorizing their session, and, furious at them, Karkat had used his chat client's time travelling abilities to troll them their entire lives. He had now realized how pointless this was, and determined that they should work together to win the game, if possible.

Not long after, Vriska encouraged John to go to sleep on his Quest Bed, knowing that Jack Noir would find him and kill him. This forced his dreamself to revive him, upgrading him to God Tier, meaning that he now had ridiculous powers and was essentially immortal. Meanwhile, Jade was still in the background, watching things through a crystal ball Rose had given her. During their game, John's and Rose's guardians had settled into a castle on Skaia, only for Jack Noir to arrive and kill them. Jade attempted to contact Rose to comfort her, not knowing that Rose had not been informed of this. This sent Rose into a rage, at which point she communed with the Horrorterrors just past Derse and and was possessed. She headed to Skaia to hunt down Jack, ignoring Jade's worried questions.

John was also on Skaia at this point, and Jade tried to contact him, too, to little avail. He had left his computer behind as he headed to the castle. It's after this failed attempt that I'm bringing her in.
PERSONALITY:
Jade is pretty much the most bubbly, friendly person you will ever meet. She tends to be childish and a bit ditzy, probably due to her isolated life on her island. As such, her closest (human) friends live nowhere near her, and she requires on the internet for all of her interactions and culture, meaning she is usually very behind on various pop culture references. She is usually the cheerleader and support of the group, encouraging her friends as they finish their quests and making sure everything goes smoothly. At the beginning of their session, this was especially true as she had her prophetic dreams to guide her. Recently, she's been trying to settling into her role as the Witch of Space, leaving the future stuff to Rose, the Seer of Light.

Her default mode is cheerful, welcoming and naïve, though she will get angry and tell you off if you push her enough. Generally she ignores whatever is frustrating her, but when that doesn't work, it's almost as though her personality does a complete one-eighty. This has happened on a few rare occasions, and Karkat was the one hit with it the hardest. It is actually really awesome. In more serious situations, she will generally hold back whatever fear or sadness she is feeling to deal with the matter at hand, as exemplified by her reaction to the destruction of Prospit. This is really a very telling example. Jade spent most of her life up to that point on Prospit while she was sleeping, and it wasn't just a silly fantasy for her – it was a real place where she had friends and a life. But despite this, she pushed her grief down and dealt with what needed to be done. In fact, she was so irritated by Jadesprite's focus on her grief that Jade yelled at and even slapped her. She is very brave, taking on their session even though she has an idea of how hard it will be, and also tends to trust people until they give her a reason not to. Related to this is her reluctance to hurt living things. She even refuses to hunt.

Jade has a narcolepsy problem, and has a habit of falling asleep at the most horrible times. In fact, she may not be able to go to sleep willingly at all, and usually only makes it into bed with the help of Bec. Initially during these naps she would dream of Prospit, seeing visions in the clouds of Skaia, and had to wear colorful reminders on her fingers to keep track of everything that she had learned and that she had to do. After the death of her dreamself, she is crushed by the death of all of her friends on Skaia and vows never to sleep again, as she will have nightmares without a dreamself.

She enjoys gardening, old cartoons, nuclear physics, high-tech gadgets, and the furry fandom (I KNOW). Jade is a skilled markswoman, though a pacifist, and also plays bass. Recently she has also begun to take a much more hands-on approach in the session, proving to be very brave and resourceful. Jade stood up to the Courtyard Droll to win back the ring he had stole, and is fiercely protective and loyal. She shoved John's dream self out of the way of the falling Prospit, despite the fact that it ended up killing her own dream self in the process.

She has a tendency to make lame jokes, most often with Dave, and the other kids seem to treat her much more compassionately and gently than they do anyone else. Jade spends her life with her head in the clouds, and seems to take things at face value rather than analyze them. This is at direct odds with Rose's need to understand everything and find the hidden meaning, even when there isn't one. Interestingly enough, she and Rose also seem to take on each other's roles at first: Rose is the Seer of Light while Jade is the Witch of Space, but Jade spends the first half of their session leading the group with the visions she's seen in Skaia's clouds, while Rose studies dark magic and becomes very adept at wielding it.

Jade's personality is broadcasted pretty clearly in the way she types. She uses no capitalization, periods or apostrophes, and starts every new thought on a new line. She abuses exclamation points and smiley faces, and is often very silly and a little bit sarcastic.

POWER:
She's able to heal herself as she sleeps! Think the move “rest” from Pokemon. Obviously the more serious the wounds are, the longer she will have to sleep to heal them. This will mean that any sort of massive trauma such as severe blood loss, heart failure, etc, will not be affected as she'd die before she'd have time to sleep them off.

UPDATE: Jade has a sort of built in GPS: She knows where she is at all times and how to get to specific locations. For example, if you're in Central Park and ask her how to get to, say, a restaurant, she would be able to tell you that restaurant is two blocks southeast even with no prior knowledge. This does not apply to people and gets more and more vague the farther away from a destination she is. It won't work at all over very large distances.

She's also gotten a watered down version of Bec's powers. She can open up tiny wormholes that take the form of a lime green spirograph and can use this to teleport herself and others over long distances. She can also shorten or lengthen the distance between two points, up to about twenty yards or so, and can use this to slow down or speed up objects.

LOGS POST (THIRD PERSON) SAMPLE:
It was so hot.

Jade lay on her bed, windows thrown up in a desperate attempt to coax a breeze into the room. She'd thrown the comforter to the floor because even laying on top of it seemed to raise the temperature of the house a few degrees. Bec, as usual, seemed unaffected by the horrible heat and humidity. He sat at the foot of her bed, tail wagging slowly as he watched her fan herself with a book. The air conditioning wasn't doing much to combat the heat, and she'd eaten about a billion Popsicles.

The joys of living on a tropical island.

She could, of course, go swimming. The water was beautiful and clear as usual, but, well... Falling asleep in the water was a very real possibility, and while Bec would most certainly save her, Jade didn't want to risk it. "Oh, Bec, this is terrible," she murmured when she felt him lick her hand gently. She flopped over onto her stomach, reaching out to scratch behind his ears. His mouth opened to pant happily.

Along with the heatwave came a crushing boredom. Usually, she would spend the morning in the greenhouse, tending to her plants, but it was even hotter down there, and she couldn't bring herself to do so. She brushed her damp bangs from her forehead and grinned as Bec rested his head on the edge of the bed, his way of asking for more attention.

"Good dog," Jade said, reaching out to pet him again. "There's nothing to doooo, boy! No one is online, and the tv is out again..." She sighed, then giggled when he pricked his ears forward. "I know most people would think this place is paradise, but it really can get boring!"

On days like today, Jade wished she lived closer to her friends. It would be amazing to be able to visit them every day, to walk to their houses when she had nothing to do and just hang out. She certainly loved her island, and Bec, and everything that came with them, but... Well, it could get a little lonely sometimes.

She rolled back over, staring up at the ceiling until colorful spots danced in her vision. What was John doing right now? Probably watching one of his silly movies. That weird one... Con Air? Jade had never seen it, and she never really intended to. Sure, he insisted that Nic Cage was a genius, but she had her doubts. And Rose was probably knitting her billionth scarf, trying very hard to avoid her mother.

Dave was certainly doing something awesome. Thinking up sick new beats, or maybe a new rap! Man, Jade hoped some day she'd be able to hear one in person. He was so talented, it was ridiculous! And his comics were so cool, too...

Of course she knew they would all meet up soon enough! It was just that sometimes, she got impatient. She saw so many amazing, exciting things in Skaia's clouds that some days seemed to drag. Every step was important, yes, but some of the steps were so lame.

Bec whined, snuffling at her hair, and Jade laughed again as she craned her neck to look at him upside down. "What? I just fed you! You're going to get fat!" He snorted quietly, as if in protest, and she shot him her bucktoothed grin. "I'm just teasing, boy. You're the most handsome, trim dog in the whole wide world! Yes you are!" Now Bec whining, shifting his weight as if uncomfortable. Jade had always known Bec understood her on some level, but like his other weird abilities, she didn't question it much. He was Bec - it was just the way things were.

It was like Prospit - she had always visited the golden city in her dreams, and had never questioned it. It was normal, for her at least, as was falling asleep unintentionally. She had never even though it was inconvenient, really, even though her friends sometimes teased her for it. Jade enjoyed sleeping, anyway, and it wasn't really a big deal, so...

She yawned, shifting slightly as Bec nudged her again, and was asleep almost immediately, off to study Skaia's prophetic clouds.
